The Song You Walk In On.

A dear friend, Jim McPeters, sent me a Facebook post today with a song that he said "reminded me of you for some reason." My first thought was - "oh gosh, what is Jim talking about(You have to know Jim)?" I hesitated clicking on the link because I was in a hurry and was trying to skim through FB to see what I had missed while I was sleeping (yes, I have a problem) before leaving my house.  I scrolled down, looked a few other posts and decided to go back and play the song. BOY, was I--(fill in exciting word here)! I listened to the lyrics and realized that Jim, who I haven't seen in person since, probably, 2002 or 2003 knows me better than most of the folks that I see on a regular basis. This song says exactly what I feel on the inside and made me want to jump up and down on my bed, run around the house with my hair blown out while singing with my hairbrush microphone!

I decided that this song would be my theme song! I have been so busy trying to create a logo that screams Ria when you look at it that I never even thought about a theme song. The song definitely screams my name! Click on the link below to hear it.

Thanks Jim, for always being in tune to me, inspiring me and supporting me! This is definitely a song that I would use to make a grand entrance.

Leave a comment below and tell me what you think about it and what song you would walk in on.

Lions and Tigers and....Fibroids? o_O

The has been a wave of news around the www about relaxers causing uterine fibroids and early puberty among African Americans. I appreciate the fact that real doctors are now acknowledging that hair relaxers are wreaking some type of havoc on our bodies. I have heard claims, in recent months, that doctors have been telling patients with a history of aneurysm and brain tumors to stop getting their hair chemically treated! Hmmmm....... have we been, unknowingly, causing harm to our brains and female organs all of these years?

Studies have actually been done and released by several organizations. BlackDoctor.org touches, briefly, on this subject.

Where do you stand on your belief of these findings? If you have a relaxer now, does this make you think about going natural? Do you have members of your family that are long time users of the creamy crack and have suffered from any of the above mentioned problems? Comment below and let me know what you think.

Am I A Traitor?

Lately, I have been thinking about the products that I use on my hair.  If you know me, you know that I am very ingredient conscious and that I examine every label before I purchase a product. However, I do see others, in the natural hair community, that are not as strict as I am about the silicones, propylene glycol, mineral oil, etc. Some of my curl friends will use whatever makes their curls shine and pop! I will have to admit, their hair looks good but when I hear the woes about dryness, flakiness, itchiness and heaviness it makes me glad that I did not use those products.

However, knowing what I know does not prevent me from wondering.... "What if I used product X just once?" I am interested to know how many of my community naturals are using 'whatever works' or if you are as ingredient conscious as me.

Post a comment to let me know what your regimen is and if you have any hair challenges because of your products.
